QLDC issues immediate water restrictions for Luggate
- Date:
- Jan 15, 2020
Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDC) has today issued water restrictions for Luggate to help conserve rapidly dropping reservoir levels.
The following restrictions are effective immediately and until further notice for Luggate:
- No sprinklers or outdoor hosing
- Switch off all irrigation and automatic watering systems
- Watering gardens and lawns is only permitted using a hand-held watering can or bucket filled directly from a tap.
Ulrich Glasner, QLDC Chief Engineer, said continuing warm weather had led to increased demand on the local water supply.
“This combination of dry weather and high demand has resulted in Luggate’s reservoir not replenishing sufficiently over successive nights, so we’re calling on all residents, visitors and local businesses to reduce usage now,” said Mr Glasner.
“With everyone’s co-operation, we can avoid reaching critical levels and the potential for a boil water notice.”
The restrictions will remain in place until further notice is provided. Updates will be posted on QLDC’s Facebook and Twitter pages.
