The Council has uplifted the following bylaws to allow for Otago Branch Jet Boating to run new boater training days into a wilderness area:

Queenstown Lakes District Waterways Navigation and Safety Bylaws 2003: 2.2 and 2.15.

Details are as follows:-

Dates: 28 February, 1, 7, 8, 14 and 15 March 2009.
Times: 8.00 am to 6.00 pm each day.
Location: Hunter River at the north end of Lake Hawea.

Only members of Jetboating New Zealand are exempt from the 5 knot limit that is currently in place on the Hunter River.
