Hawea boil water notice extended

Date:
Jan 18, 2010

A boil water notice for Hawea residents has been extended until Wednesday (20 January)

The Queenstown Lakes District Council last Thursday issued a boil water notice to Hawea Township residents.

“The notice was issued after routine testing detected the positive presence of e- coli in Hawea Township water supply,” QLDC 3 waters manager Gerry Essenberg said.

Further testing is ongoing - three clear results must be obtained before the boil water notice can be lifted.

The council recommended that residents connected to the Hawea Township water supply boil all drinking water until Wednesday morning (January 20)

“Testing will continue over the next few days and contractors will be flushing the water lines to ensure any residual contamination is flushed to waste,’ Mr Essenberg said.
