Last call to have your say

Residents and ratepayers of the Queenstown Lakes District had just a few more days to influence the coming year in the district, QLDC general manager finance and deputy chief executive Stewart Burns said.

The council had enjoyed a steady stream of submissions with 150 received to date, and counting.

“It’s always encouraging to know that we are engaging our communities,” Mr Burns said.

But the council was less concerned about the number as it was about receiving quality submissions.

“From what I have seen we have some very considered submissions coming through,’ he said.

He was also pleasantly surprised with the number of people that had turned out to the informal Annual Plan coffee mornings in Wanaka and Queenstown.

“There was a time when we would have more staff than attendees but this year the sessions have been well attended and highly productive,” Mr Burns said.

Anyone interested in finding out more about the council’s plan for the 2010/11 year and making a submission still had the weekend to have their say.

“The Annual Plan Summary is available on the council website www.qldc.govt.nz and people can still get a submission to us either electronically via the website, by email or mail or by calling into a council office by Monday evening,” Mr Burns said.

Submissions closed at midnight on Monday 17 May, 2010.
