With the rain easing in the District this morning, lake levels are expected to peak this evening, without incident. The Otago Regional Council lake level modelling projects that Lake Wakatipu will reach a level of approximately 311.035. This is over the first flood warning level of 310.8 but below the possible flood level of 311.3 (note 311.3 would only bring some spill into low lying reserve areas of the Queenstown Bay foreshore and would not result in the flooding of any property or premise). At 11am the lake was sitting at 310.85 with the tributary river flows are already starting to drop.  Lake Wanaka is already dropping and not expected to reach the first flood warning level. The Councils will continue to monitor the situation but the lakes are expected to drop again without incident. Lake levels can be monitored by going to the ORC website click Here
