The tender round for the management of the popular Summerdaze Festival has opened and Queenstown Lakes District Council arts and events facilitator Jan Maxwell says she’s looking forward to hearing from experienced event managers keen to take the event to the next level.

“Every January for the last 7 years, Summerdaze has provided some amazing entertainment and events for locals and visitors alike,” said Mrs Maxwell. “This event has always been well supported in both attendance and sponsorship by the community and all the structure is in place. What it requires now is someone with big ideas and the appropriate event management experience to drive it.”

The position is a fixed term contract from 1 July 2011 to 1 March 2013 involving 20 weeks work per year. The Summerdaze Festival includes New Year’s Eve celebrations in both Queenstown and Wanaka and the programme, which runs until the 31st of January, also umbrellas existing community events as well as those put on especially for the festival.

“There is a stipulation that a new community event or activity is added to Summerdaze each year,” said Mrs Maxwell, “That’s a great opportunity for someone to really put their stamp on an event.”

Tender documents are available from QLDC offices in Queenstown and Wanaka or from Jan Maxwell via janm@qldc.govt.nz.
