The Queenstown Lakes District Council is calling for membership of a working party to review current district wards and the Wanaka Community Board, QLDC regulatory and corporate general manager Roger Taylor said.

“Council is required by the Local Electoral Act to undertake a representation review before the end of August 2012,’ he said.

The review must consider if the current wards and board are providing fair and effective representation to the district.

“Part of the consideration will include whether the ward boundaries are appropriate and fit the communities they represent. The wards being Wakatipu, Arrowtown and Wanaka,’ Mr Taylor said.

The review would also cover how councillors and community board members were elected and the role of the community board and whether other community boards should be established.

“It’s essential that this review is for and by the community, therefore the Council resolved at its May meeting to call for expressions of interest from members of the public interested in being considered for membership on a review working party,’ Mr Taylor said.

Anyone interested was welcome to call and discuss the role further with Mr Taylor.

Expressions of Interest would be called for in the Mirror and Sun newspapers next week.  Draft terms of reference for the working party are available on the Council website >>Click Here

Expressions of Interest should be emailed to the Chief Executive c/o roger.taylor@qldc.govt.nz by 5pm, 15 July 2011.
