Speed Limit Bylaw Consultation Opens

- Date:
- Dec 5, 2011
The community is being asked to comment on proposed changes to the speed limits on a number of local roads.
Following requests from the community, the Queenstown Lakes District Council reviewed speed limits in a number of places and has recommended some adjustments to the current Speed Limit Bylaw.
The proposals are:
• A reduction from 50km/h to 40 km/h within the Arrowtown Urban Traffic Area
• A reduction from 70 km/h to 50 km/h on a section of Cardrona Valley Road and from 100km/h to 70 km/h on the approaches into Cardrona
• A reduction from 70 km/h to 50 km/h on Old Racecourse Road and Ewing Place in Albert Town
• A reduction from 100 km/h to 70 km/h on a section of Camp Hill Road, Hawea Flat
• A reduction from 50 km/h to 20 km/h on the Esplanade Reserve, Hawea.
QLDC transport manager Denis Mander said some preliminary consultation had been undertaken in Arrowtown and now the draft bylaw amendment was open for wider consultation.
“We’re now entering the formal process for the bylaw amendment and this is people’s opportunity to have formal input,” he said.
“As the consultation period falls over Christmas and New Year, submissions will be open for longer than usual.”
Submissions close at 5pm on Friday 13 January and a hearing will be held later that month. The draft bylaw can be viewed online at www.qldc.govt.nz and at Council offices and public libraries in Queenstown and Wanaka.
