Two recently sealed roads in Arrowtown will receive extra chip seal today in an effort to mitigate (tar) bleeding, Queenstown Lakes District Council project manager Steve Hewland said.

“Both Adamson Drive and Centennial Avenue are not performing as we would like,” Mr Hewland said.

The projects would be fully assessed to identify the cause of the bleeding but hot temperatures were likely to be a contributing factor,” he said.

Council acknowledged that for residents the bleeding was a real nuisance factor.

“Bitumen comes through the surface of the chip seal and can stick to cars and shoes, which is clearly not satisfactory,” Mr Hewland said.

Council apologised to anyone that had experienced problems.

“The important thing is to try and mitigate the problem. We have applied further chip over the last week and will apply another layer today,” he said.

Council would continue to monitor the situation.

“A further reseal will need to occur in the future,” Mr Hewland said.
