Media advisory - Tree Works Scheduled
- Date:
- Oct 18, 2012
Various tree works will be undertaken over the next two weeks in central Queenstown, Queenstown Lakes District Council parks manager Gordon Bailey said. The work includes the removal of a beech tree next to the glass house in the Queenstown Gardens.
“Unfortunately the tree has been progressively dying over the last few years and it is now at the stage where the dead branches are threatening the glass house and tennis court area,” Mr Bailey said. A replacement tree would be planted.
The Wellingtonia trees next to the Court House required a couple of limbs to be trimmed. “Unfortunately they are coming into contact with high vehicles so they do need to be removed,” Mr Bailey said. The job would be undertaken in the early hours of the morning to alleviate disruption with traffic reduced to one lane.
Meanwhile a large Macrocarpa and a large Douglas Fir near the back of the Novotel Gardens Hotel must also be removed. “The trees are likely to become unstable as they continue to grow. If they fail then they could threaten the hotel,” he said.
Wherever possible, Council’s policy is replace tree. “We have planted over 250 trees this year alone,” Mr Bailey said.
