Library lovers from as far away as Kingston came to tonight’s public feedback forum in Queenstown to discuss the recommendations of a community task force on the future of library services in the Queenstown Lakes District.

The recommendations, which are online at http://www.qldc.govt.nz/images/content/Leisure%20and%20Culture/Task_Force_recommendations.pdf also include those put forward by independent library consultants who have been reviewing the services that the Council provides.
Those who spoke at the forum indicated that the recommendations generally covered the areas they felt were important. These ranged from an increased emphasis on digital access to knowledge to the need to retain books and the human face of libraries.

The recommendations are on the agenda for this month’s Council meeting and any that require additional funding or involve a significant change in levels of service will be included in the Draft Annual Plan for further consultation at the end of next month.

There’s another forum tomorrow night at the Lake Wanaka Centre, from 6.30 – 7.30pm.
