Dog control rules under review

How are the current dog control rules working for you? That is the question Queenstown Lakes District Council is asking as it begins a review of its Dog Control Bylaw and Policy.
QLDC Regulatory Manager Anthony Hall said that all ideas and insights would be considered as part of a formal review, planned for late 2019.
“We’re a dog friendly district and incentivise responsible dog ownership, but we need to be very conscious of the health and safety of our residents and visitors,” he said.
Mr Hall encouraged all dog owners to share their views but noted it was also important to hear from those who did not own dogs to ensure Council heard a wider perspective.
“Whether you own a dog or not, you’re bound to have ideas and feedback on whether there should be restrictions on where dogs are allowed in public or if it’s more appropriate they are on or off leads in certain areas, he said.”
An informal survey would run from 5-28 June, followed by a formal consultation process on an amended Dog Control Bylaw and Policy later in 2019.
