Boil water notice issued for Glendhu Bay Lakeside Holiday Park
A boil water notice has been issued for the Glendhu Bay Lakeside Holiday Park after low levels of e-coli bacteria were found at the Glendhu Bay Water Treatment Station.
Queenstown Lakes District Council 3 waters senior service engineer Michel Hewitt said the recent heavy rain may have caused a spill into the lake and while there was no evidence as yet that the bacteria had made its way into the actual water supply, the boil water notice had been issued as a precautionary measure.
“It’s a busy time of year for the camp ground and we’re erring on the side of caution,” Mr Hewitt said.
“We’re advising all camp ground users to boil water for drinking, cooking, tooth brushing and the like until further notice.”
More testing is being done and the Council is also investigating the cause of the contamination. The Glendhu Bay Lakeside Holiday Park is the sole user of water from the Glendhu Bay Water Treatment Station.
