Crown Range Road to be closed to traffic Tuesday and Wednesday next week

- Date:
- Apr 5, 2019
Crown Range Road will be closed for extended periods of time on Tuesday 9 and Wednesday 10 April to allow for blasting works, rock removal, scaling and road clearing in two sites.
Closures will be signed, gated and manned from Eastburn Road on the Queenstown side of the Crown Range, and Cardrona.
Traffic management will be on site both days from 8.30am in the morning, with one lane of traffic established until 9.30am. From 9.30am, Crown Range Road will be completely closed to traffic until 3.30pm with the Kawarau Gorge (SH6) as the alternative travel route. One lane of traffic will be re-established from 3.30pm until 5.00pm, whereby both lanes will be opened.
Works are planned for two specific sites, those being the ‘Laser Kiwi’ slip on Tuesday, and the Chain Bay 5 slip on Wednesday.
Initially planned to begin Monday 8 April, works have been pushed to begin on the Tuesday instead, to allow for roading crews tasked with the project to participate in a nation-wide stop work meeting on the Monday.
