SHA integration discussions to be held with Hāwea community representatives
- Date:
- Sep 21, 2018
Councillor Scott Stevens advised today that he will be leading meetings on behalf of Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDC) with representatives of the Hāwea community. The aim of this engagement is to determine an approach for implementing the proposed Hāwea Special Housing Area (SHA) to the south of Cemetery Road that achieves the required integration with the existing township and community.
These discussions are set to begin next week with groups who were involved in the initial process - the Hāwea Community Association, Wanaka Community Board, other developers in the area and Universal Developments Ltd.
Cllr Stevens said the aim of these targeted meetings is to ensure that the proposed 400-lot SHA is adequately integrated into the Hāwea community and not a standalone settlement.
“The original Council report and the EOI itself indicated a development well-connected with the existing township and that’s what I believe we should be trying to achieve. During the discussions, we will keep that front of mind whilst also taking into consideration previous feedback we received relating to opportunities for integration,” said Cllr Stevens.
These meetings are on the back of the Full Council meeting held on Thursday 6 September where the draft deed of agreement was approved by Council. The outcome of these further discussions and considerations is currently intended to be presented to Council at their December meeting.
