QLDC seeks feedback on proposed Traffic and Parking Bylaw

Date:
Sep 7, 2018

Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDC) is seeking community feedback on a proposed new bylaw for Traffic and Parking to replace the existing bylaw.

The Traffic and Parking Bylaw allows the Council to regulate parking and vehicle use of roads and public places under Council’s control, and other traffic and parking issues which are not covered under the Land Transport Act, Local Government Acts or Road User Rules.

QLDC Acting Asset Planning Manager Polly Lambert says by replacing the existing bylaw, there would be more clarity and certainty for regulation and compliance as it includes technical revisions and new definitions to reflect gaps and legislative change since the last bylaw was adopted.

“The proposed bylaw should help QLDC address key issues in our district such as grass verge parking. This is an annoyance for many of our ratepayers that we are currently unable to regulate or enforce.”

Other aspects that the proposed new bylaw covers include the ability to establish residents’ parking areas or zones; creating special vehicle lanes; and applying a permitting system for small passenger service vehicle parking to help control numbers and access to standing locations.

Public submissions can be made from Saturday 8 September until Friday 12 October at 5:00pm.
