Crown Range road closure - UPDATE

slip
Date:
Sep 17, 2017

The crew on site clearing the major slip near chain bay 5 on the Queenstown side of the Crown Range road indicate it should be open around 3pm today (Sunday). This is pending a further geotechnical inspection early afternoon.

Snow is currently falling on the Crown Range which will hopefully not delay the reopening.

The closure begins at the State Highway junction on the Arrowtown/ Queenstown side, and at Cardrona township on the Wanaka side.

As previously reported, road access from Wanaka to Cardrona Alpine Resort & Snow Farm remains unaffected by the slip - the road from Wanaka to Cardrona township remains open as normal. Check ski fields' own websites for their most up-to-date conditions.

The alternative route between Wanaka and Queenstown is State Highway 6 via Cromwell.

Finally, problems with QLDC's email road reports today prevented our usual pre-7am report and any updates since. So please share this update with anyone for whom you think it would be useful.

Council would like to thank the public for its co-operation and patience while the road has been closed.
