Queenstown Lakes District Council will this week notify its intention to incorporate the Arrowtown Design Guidelines 2016 into the Proposed District Plan, to replace the current guidelines, which are now over 10 years old.

The proposal would mean the new Guidelines would be given more weight when resource consent applications are being considered for development in specific zones within Arrowtown.

“The aim of the design guidelines is to ensure that future development will be done in ways that retain the town’s unique historic character,” QLDC General Manager Planning and Development Tony Avery said. “We’ve worked with representatives of the Arrowtown Community and a Heritage Architect to update the guidelines to reflect changes that have happened in Arrowtown over the past 10 years.”

Proposed developments in Arrowtown’s residential zones would need to reflect the town’s special character.

A public meeting will be held in Arrowtown on Tuesday 26 July at the St Johns Church Community Hall in Arrowtown from 7pm-9pm.

Submissions open from Wednesday 20 July and will close on 17 August.
