QLDC Seeks Feedback on Wanaka Lakefront Development Plan

Date:
Dec 23, 2015

Queenstown Lakes District Council is seeking feedback to inform a Draft Wanaka Lakefront Development Plan.

The development plan shows concepts for the entire foreshore area from the Wanaka Yacht Club to the southern beach area end of Roy’s Bay. It details how future works to improve the lakefront area can be undertaken. Options show alternative carparking layout, an events space, new boating facilities and improved pedestrian and cycle ways.

Senior Parks and Reserves Planner Jeannie Galavazi says that the plan provides a 30 year strategy that links the foreshore areas together and provides improved connections from the lakefront to the adjacent town centre.

As part of the feedback process, the public will have the opportunity to have their say on six different design options for the town centre area. Alternative ideas can also be contributed to the Council using the blank plan document available on the website or at Wanaka Library and Ardmore Street Office. Public drop in sessions with staff and Wanaka Community Board members will be held in mid-January and February 2016. The finalised plan will be split into smaller projects which will each require funding to be approved in future annual plans through a public consultation process.
