Renovations Begin at Frankton Golf Club

- Date:
- Oct 15, 2014
Renovations at the Frankton Golf Club began today and will involve the construction of a new 800m2 practice green, including a 60m2 practice bunker. In addition, the first and ninth hole greens will also be renovated and the irrigation system improved.
Golf Team Leader Jamie McIsaac says that surveys had shown that the quality of the turf was important to the club’s members.
“The changes will mean improved turf and better surfaces to play on. The short game area is going to be world class and will enhance the experience of everyone that wants to learn how to play golf - both young and old,” he said.
The Wakatipu Junior Golf Club was established last month with support from the Council and is also expected to benefit from the new greens. “With the new junior club we can see that numbers are going to grow. It will be great to provide an improved and affordable facility,” said Mr McIsaac.
Frankton Golf Club will continue to remain open while work is being carried out. Members should note that the first hole will be closed and the ninth hole will have a temporary green during this period.
The new facilities are expected to open in March 2015 weather permitting.
