QLDC Mayor Vanessa van Uden opened the Global Lambda Integrated Facility Conference 2014 in Queenstown this morning where a 100Gbps research network connection that spans approximately 20,500km to California has been set up temporarily.
Conference hosts REANNZ say that the network capacity is more than 4000 times faster than basic residential broadband and 1000 times faster than the ultra-fast broadband currently available in New Zealand.
“It’s awesome that leading-edge technology is able to be showcased and demonstrated live here in Queenstown. It just goes to show what you can achieve with some innovative thinking,” Mayor Vanessa van Uden said.
