Jun 27, 2014

Schools from across the Queenstown Lakes District will compete in the third annual Kids’ Games tournament at the Queenstown Events Centre on Tuesday 1 and Thursday 3 July.

The tournament, which is for students in years 5 and 6, is the finale of QLDC’s free Kids’ Games programme, run in conjunction with Sport Otago and Sport Southland, where students across the district learn to play Kiwi Rugby League, Hockey and Dodgeball.

Run like an Olympic games, each class will be assigned a country and students are encouraged to dress as that team for the day.  Each day Cr “Ferg” Ferguson will kick off the event with an opening ceremony and lighting of the torch and Mayor Vanessa Van Uden will close the games and present the awards.

“This is the first time that Wanaka schools have participated in the Kids’ Games programme,” Recreation Programmes Coordinator Tash Falk said. “It’s great to have all the schools on board.  We really appreciate their support and cooperation to deliver something a little bit different to the kids.”
