SPARC Rural Travel Fund Deadline Extended
- Date:
- Sep 21, 2004
After receiving just a handful of applications, the SPARC Rural Travel Fund deadline has been extended.
Queenstown-Lakes District Council Special Projects Manager Lee Harris said while the fund was advertised, word obviously has not yet got around that there is money for sporting clubs and school teams that include 5 to 19 year old members.
The Rural Travel Fund is designed to help subsidise travel for junior teams participating in local sport competition.
It was developed in response to concerns raised by territorial authorities about the lack of participation in sport by young people living in rural communities.
While applications were due in last Friday, September 17, Ms Harris is happy to receive applications up to this Friday, September 24.
Local teams that received funding last year included schoolboy and schoolgirl rugby teams, ice hockey, a ski club and a golf team.
