Malaghan's Road Improvements
- Date:
- Feb 21, 2005
Improvements to the surface of Malaghan's Road, between Queenstown and Arrowtown, will improve conditions this winter.
SouthRoads is carrying out remedial work on the section of road between Hunter Road and Dalefield.
"A section of the road was not constructed to the standard specified in the original contract undertaken last year. Southroads has agreed to rebuild the pavement," QLDC engineering contractor Imtech managing director Chris Gregory said.
Rebuilding the stretch of road to the satisfaction of the Council's standards was preferable to the risk of early failure.
Other work on Malaghan Road would include the section below Coronet Peak, scheduled to commence next week.
"This is a problematic, shady section of road, subject to heavy frosting," Mr Gregory said.
QLDC roading contractor Works Infrastructure would spend approximately a week repairing the surface to avoid potholing this winter.
The proliferation of road works in the region was due to the time of year.
"We try to avoid road works on arterial roads during the school holidays, which leaves February and March to carry out works before the temperature drops, hence all the activity on our roads and state highways throughout the region," Mr Gregory said.
