Visitor Accommodation Discussion Paper Released

Date:
Feb 23, 2005

A discussion document outlining the background and rationale behind the Queenstown Lakes District Council's visitor accommodation position has been released this week.

"In the process of answering various questions from the community on this complex matter I have formulated a document to help explain the issues," QLDC chief executive Duncan Field said.

The document outlined progress, including the public process of council meetings and industry consultation that led to the council's current position.

On February 9 the QLDC strategy committee resolved that a Plan Change was required to resolve the visitor accommodation issue and that the general structure of a tiered approach to rating and financial contributions and consents was appropriate.

"We are now preparing additional information, particularly relating to the implications for rating and development contributions, to take back to that committee, next month (March)," Mr Field said.

The full committee resolution was recorded in the discussion document, which was available at Council offices and on the Council website.

"At the strategy meeting I gave the committee an undertaking that, as long as progress was being made on resolving this issue, no prosecution would be undertaken," Mr Field said.
