Arbor Day Celebration for the Children
- Date:
- May 27, 2005
The Queenstown Lakes District Council is calling on the young members of its community to get in behind Arbor Day celebrations this year.
"Arbor Day falls on Queenstown Birthday weekend but to make the celebrations more accessible to young people and families we have decided to make the celebrations after school in the week following," QLDC director of parks Paul Wilson said.
Young people taking part would not only enjoy the experience of planting a tree for their future but would also receive certificates, signed by the Mayor and the Deputy Mayor and special stickers.
"We will also have a cup of something hot for the children to ward off the winter chill," Mr Wilson said.
The celebrations will take place at Eely Point, Wanaka on Tuesday, June 7 at 3.30pm and at the Queenstown Gardens on Wednesday June 8 at 3.30pm.
Children and families should meet at the Eely Point boat ramp for Wanaka and the at the band rotunda in the gardens for Queenstown.
"Everybody is welcome to take part," Mr Wilson said.
