Record Centre Users in May
- Date:
- Jun 2, 2005
The Queenstown Event Centre has recorded its busiest month since opening in July 1997.
13,723 users were recorded during the month of May, some 3,000 more than recorded in May 2004 and 2,000 more than recorded in the previous busiest month in January 2004, when the centre hosted its 2nd international cricket game.
"At a time in the year when local businesses are traditionally quiet, it is fantastic to see so many people in the local community using the centre facilities," Mr Tingate said.
"During the month of May 77% of all centre visitors were attending community activities, including various sport leagues, training, competitions and tournaments. The remaining 23% of visitors attended public access events, such as the Wakatipu Ski Club Annual Ski Sale," Mr Tingate said.
Mr Tingate also said that he was very encouraged by the large number of people recorded as actively participating in physical activity, 62% of those attending community activities were recorded as being participants in activities and the remaining 38% recorded as spectators or activity providers.
"The four months from April through to the end of July are the busiest months of the year for community sporting activities with 70% of visitors using our indoor facilities and the remaining 30% our outdoor fields and courts," Mr Tingate said.
