Good Response to Lake Wanaka Weed Plan

Date:
Jun 3, 2005

The final 10 year plan for weed control in Lake Wanaka will be approved at the end of August, after 57 submissions were received on the draft plan.

The plan sets out how the Lake Wanaka Lagarosiphon Managers' Committee proposes to control the invasive lakeweed Lagarosiphon in Lake Wanaka, Committee spokesperson Chris Hawker from Queenstown Lakes District Council said.

"There was a late surge in submissions and the committee is pleased by the response. We got some really good information and a wide range of views expressed. The committee will analyse the submissions and consider changes to the 10 year plan. Our analysis will be independently reviewed and then made public in July," Mr Hawker said.

All submitters who provided contact details will receive a copy of the final analysis direct from the committee.

Once approved, the final plan will be available on the Land Information New Zealand and QLDC websites.

The Lake Wanaka Lagarosiphon Managers' Committee comprises: the Lake Wanaka Guardians, the Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDC), Otago Regional Council (ORC), the Department of Conservation and Land Information New Zealand (LINZ).
