Peninsula Bay Open Day

Date:
Aug 23, 2005

The Queenstown Lakes District Council is currently considering whether to initiate a Plan Change for the land known as Peninsula Bay, at Beacon Point in Wanaka, CivicCorp principal policy Jenny Parker said.

The Peninsula Bay land is included in the inner boundary of the Wanaka Structure Plan, adopted by the Council in Novemvber 2004, however that inclusion was on the basis that Peninsula Bay was subject to a Variation at that time, from rural to residential. The Variation was subsequently overturned by the Environment Court.

"The Council would now like to test the community's feelings as to whether some areas of the land should be included in the structure plan, as originally intended, to cater for growth in the next 10 years, or vary that inclusion, or refrain from initiating a Plan Change at all," Ms Parker said.

A discussion document, together with feedback forms for the suggested Plan Change were now available from Council or CivicCorp offices in Wanaka and Queenstown or could be viewed or downloaded on the Council's website www.qldc.govt.nz.

"In order to create an opportunity to discuss the proposal and gain some valued feedback, the Council is holding a public open day," Ms Parker said.

The open day will be held on Thursday 8 September, at the St John's building, 1 Link Way, Wanaka, between 4pm and 7pm.

"Prior to the open day, I think the community will find it valuable to have a look at the discussion document but copies will also be available at the open day," Ms Parker said.

The Council hoped to gain a high level of community feedback by the deadline of 12 September, 2005.

Should the Council decide to initiate a Plan Change then the community would again be given the opportunity to participate in the process by way of formal submission, Ms Parker said.
