Queenstown Lakes District Council has closed the Kawarau River Trail following last week’s heavy rain.

The intensive rainfall caused considerable damage to the trail and following an inspection it was decided it should be closed to allow repairs to take place.

The closure has been signposted at the start of the trail at the Shotover Delta and at the Riverside Road end where the trail splits to the original river trail and new upper trail.

QLDC GM Community Service Paul Wilson said the trail was likely to remain closed until further notice.
