Kirimoko Project Progressing

The Queenstown Lakes District Council is expecting an amended concept plan for the re-zoning of Kirimoko Block in Wanaka to be made available for Council and public comment in February 2006, QLDC strategy and planning manager Vicki Jones said.

Earlier this year, the proposed zone change for the Peninsula Bay land was declined by the Environment Court. This decision prompted the Council to notify an amended re-zoning for the Peninsula Bay land and to rethink some of the aspects of the Kirimoko zone change to ensure it is appropriate and protects landscape values.

"The decision has been very helpful for the ongoing assessment of appropriate zoning for Kirimoko," Kirimoko spokesman Don Church said.

The Kirimoko development had been able to accommodate elements of the public comment considered in relation to neighbouring Peninsula Bay, he said.

"We have also been able to undertake further detailed assessments in terms of landscape sensitivity, urban design, and connectivity to adjoining roads and sites".

The Kirimoko Block comprises about 58 hectares of Wanaka land located between Aubrey Road and Rata Street and intersected by Kirimoko Crescent. It is also adjacent to the proposed Peninsula Bay development which is on its northern boundary. A new Catholic school is presently under construction on an Aubrey Road frontage of the block.

The Council held a public information session in October last year in Wanaka, to introduce a concept plan for the Kirimoko block of land and to invite early public feedback.
