Crown Range Restrictions to Apply

Signage will be put in place early next week on the Crown Range to signal enforcement of a heavy vehicle restriction Queenstown Lakes District Council general manager utilities Mark Kunath said.

The Council proposed the restriction last year for safety reasons and to address ongoing road damage.

The Council will give formal notice from this weekend that enforcement will apply from June 1 2006 Mr Kunath said.

The Council adopted the restriction on the 20 December 2005 with the provison that the restriction be enforced once signage was installed on both sides of the Crown Range Road.

We hope to have the signage up from Monday and then from Thursday next week the restriction will apply to vehicles exceeding 14200kg in gross laden weight or exceeding 12 6 metres he said.

The exception is for property owners within the zone Whitechapel turnoff to Bridge 11 permitted vehicles or road maintenance vehicles.

The Council had agreed to a further temporary exception for passenger service vehicles accessing ski areas between June 15 and October 15 That exception would be removed from October 2008.
