Wakatipu skateboard enthusiasts are being invited to step up and take part in the planning of a new skatepark for Queenstown, Queenstown Lakes District Council parks director Paul Wilson said.

"We are looking for four members of the public to participate in a design control group for the skatepark," Mr Wilson said.

After a lengthy process, the Queenstown Gardens, the site of the existing skatepark, was identified last month as the location for the new facility.

"This is a chance to have real input into the design and features of the new park and from our perspective we get to tap into the needs of our local community," he said.

Once established, the design group would meet over the next six months.

Expressions of interest in being part of the team could be emailed or text to Mr Wilson.

"Any feedback or suggestions for the design group would also be welcome," Mr Wilson said.
