Kinloch Road Report Released
- Date:
- Jul 31, 2006
The Queenstown Lakes District Council today released a report into the condition and recommended upgrade of the Greenstone-Kinloch Road.
The report was commissioned by QLDC in the wake of the tragic death of two young Glenorchy children after an accident on the road in September 2005.
The report has recommended that the section of road, including the crash site, be upgraded to include the following safety work:
- Reduce the gradient of the road.
- Widen a narrow section of the road.
- Construct a road barrier, lakeside, over a section of 100m.
"We have provided a copy of the report for the Coroners Inquiry and consulted with the Glenorchy community," QLDC utilities manager Mark Kunath said.
The Council has a $140,000 budget set aside for the work which is currently being costed.
"We hope to undertake and complete this work as soon as possible. I think there is a desire for all parties to ensure the road is improved as soon as practically possible," Mr Kunath said.
The report had given the Council the information required to ensure the safety work was both appropriate and well executed and met with the requirements of the local community.
