Fisherman's Track Options
- Date:
- Aug 3, 2006
The Wanaka community is being asked to consider options for the future of the road around Beacon Point, Queenstown Lakes District Council walkways project manager Anne Relling said.
"The draft Upper Clutha Walking and Cycling Strategy proposed stopping vehicle access on this road, referred to as Fisherman's Track," Ms Relling said. The concept, which stemmed from community feedback, was to make walking and cycling a safer and more pleasant experience along the route.
The 4WD road was popular with many different recreational groups, including vehicle use; in particular the road is used to access one of the prime windsurfing launching areas.
"Further feedback led the council to develop a discussion document on Fisherman's Track, which explores four different options," Ms Relling said.
The council is keen to gauge the extent of use and community feeling on what might be the best option.
"One of those options will be to maintain the status quo," Ms Relling said.
The discussion document was available at council offices or could be viewed under 'your opinion' on the home page of the council website www.qldc.govt.nz.
Comments could be mailed or delivered to a council office or could be emailed to jessicad@qldc.govt.nz
