Some fascinating designs for sculpture have been arriving at the Queenstown Lakes District Council offices, QLDC arts and events facilitator Jan Maxwell said.

"We are looking for art to be showcased in and around the new Queenstown aquatic centre," Mrs Maxwell said.

Some exciting and in some cases ambitious works had been received for consideration.

"We are really thrilled with the ideas and designs. It's a lovely project and it's obviously capturing people's imagination," Mrs Maxwell said.

Sculptures had ranged from interior two dimensional works through to extensive outdoor pieces.

The council had received 20 perspective works and expected a few more surprises in the mail before the closing date of September 1, 2006.
