Ramps for Summer

Date:
Aug 18, 2006

Good news for boat users in the Queenstown Lakes District with a big pre-summer push for new ramps and jetties and upgrades and replacements for those existing.

District -wide six jetties will be developed, replaced or upgraded, QLDC harbourmaster Marty Black said.

The council will be asked to approve a new launching ramp for Frankton Marina at the full council meeting on August 25. The proposed significant three lane ramp will be complementary to the proposed marina structure, nearby.

Other works either underway or scheduled include:

  • Sunshine Bay ramp (to be installed prior to Labour Weekend).
  • Bayview Road ramp (extension to be implemented prior to Christmas).
  • Albert Town ramp (extension of an extra slab).
  • Lake Hawea main ramps (doubling of ramp size prior to Labour Weekend and new jetty for next year).
  • Glenorchy ramp (under repair).

"With increasing demand on these facilities it's great to see that we are putting a good amount of resource behind making sure these ramps are accessible and available to meet user demand," Mr Black said.

The timing of both the Bayview and Lake Hawea projects were subject the consent process.

"Certainly as we head into summer we will be looking at much improved facilities across the district," Mr Black said.
