- Aug 22, 2006
A luxury Queenstown Hotel is throwing open its doors to host its biggest party ever.
The International ASB Jazzfest Trust, together with Queenstown's Sofitel Hotel today announced details of a hot new festival event for the 10-day long October festival.
"It's going to be huge," Sofitel general manager Mark Wilkinson said.
On the night of October 19 the entire retail area of the hotel would be transformed into a night of delicious decadence.
"I have been looking for an opportunity to showcase this fantastic space and this is it," Mr Wilkinson said.
The hotel's sweeping staircases and marbled interiors leant itself to the nights glamour Parisian theme.
"It will be Paris Night in Le Sofitel, from the red carpet entrance to the flowing champagne fountains, we plan to transform the Sofitel into the French quarter," Mr Wilkinson said.
Guests would be able to wander and enjoy a taste of each of the seven venues featured in the hotel with a different flavour of jazz in every venue.
"The place will be jumping with bands like Galapagos Duck, Gahu, the Doug Caldwell Trio and the amazing Fiona Pearse, it will be the ultimate sight, sound and taste sensation," ASB JazzFest organiser Harvey Maguire said.
And after guests had cruised in the Code Bar or boogied in the Bezu Restaurant, the night was scheduled to end with a big bang.
"We plan a fireworks finale that will seal the Paris Night as one of the best nights of the year," Mr Wilkinson said.
ASB Jazzfest tickets go on sale this week online at www.asbjazzfest.co.nz or from Ticket Direct 03 442 3664 or from i-Site in Queenstown.
"At the subsidised price of $95 a ticket and with limited ticket sales, that has to make the Paris Night a hot favourite for the festival," Mr Maguire said.
