Scurr Heights Playground Taking Shape
- Date:
- Sep 1, 2006
The development of a $380,000 Scurr Heights park at Wanaka is now well underway," Queenstown Lakes District Council parks director Paul Wilson said.
"We are well in hand to meet our target opening day of Labour Weekend," Mr Wilson said.
The playground which featured state of the art swings, rides and slides also featured a flying fox.
"We got together with the local community and talked through their requirements and the flying fox was top of the list, it's looking fantastic," Mr Wilson said.
The hardest part of developing a new playground was keeping the children clear of the enticing equipment until the area was completed.
"In this case it will be worth the wait. Having set a high standard with the Lake Wanaka dinosaur playground we have gone for a similar standard both for Scurr Heights and at Albert Town," Mr Wilson said.
The Scurr Heights playground, which covered a large area of land, would also feature a barbeque area and a large greenfield 'kick-about?' area.
The playground was one of several being developed or replaced this year by the council to the tune of more than a million dollars.
Next up was the Lake Hayes Estate playground.
"I will be holding a drop in session from 9-11am at Lake Hayes Estate tomorrow (Saturday) to talk through ideas and requirements for that community," Mr Wilson said.
