Special Meeting of Council

Date:
Nov 1, 2006

The Queenstown Lakes District Council will hold a special meeting on Friday to discuss the ongoing service delivery review.

"The council is working through the review of contracts that expire in the main in 2008, a process that we are undertaking with all our contractors," QLDC chief executive Duncan Field said.

The review, instigated in 2004, has seen independent working groups and industry experts consult widely with the community and stakeholders, all of which has been reported to council and in the media.

"The council has made no secret of the fact that it is conducting this review and the options being considered, which are clearly outlined in the Council Community Plan," Mr Field said.

"The review will ensure the streamlining of any future change in the way the council delivers these services. Options being considered together with current contracts include 'in-house' delivery by council and the establishment of fully owned Council Controlled Organisations"

"The meeting on Friday is a confirmation of that process," Mr Field said.

The meeting would not involve any final decisions but would give council management the authority to move towards the next stage.

It would be a decision for elected members as to when the information would be made public but Mr Field anticipated that would be in the near future.
