Eely Point Work Underway
- Date:
- Nov 1, 2006
The $300,000 Eely Point upgrade for Wanaka is now underway, Queenstown Lakes District Council parks director Paul Wilson said.
The upgrade involved changing the road layout to shift boat traffic away from the picnic area.
"With more demand on the launch area, there was an unhappy mix of vehicles and picnicking families," Mr Wilson said.
The road realignment would see the entrance beside the scout den closed off with new access via the Lakeside Road.
The picnic area would also be upgraded with additional seating and picnic tables.
"It's a fantastic setting and with the completion of the upgrade it will be a great spot for all the different users to enjoy the summer," Mr Wilson said.
New toilets had already been installed at Eely Point and the roading part of the upgrade was scheduled for completion by December 15.
"Because of the nature of the work the area has to be closed off to allow the contractors to safely complete all works," Mr Wilson said.
