Frankton Flats Submissions Close This Week

Submissions on the comprehensive rezoning of one of the most important strategic tracts of land in the Queenstown Lakes District will close on Friday, QLDC senior policy analyst Ralph Henderson said.

The future of the zoning of Frankton Flats has been a matter that has been before the council for more than a decade. In terms of wider Queenstown, the Frankton Flats area was strategically critical to the future planning of the area, he said.

"If any members of the community want to be involved in the plan change or rezoning going forward then they need to get involved now by making a submission," Mr Henderson said.

The proposed zoning covered an area from Glenda Drive industrial area to the Queenstown Events Centre and included the Five Mile Development. The total area to be rezoned was approximately 60 ha.

The plan change included industrial and business zoning; re-zoning an additional 30ha for industrial purposes.

The proposed zoning would prohibit residential activities within the industrial areas but the remainder of the Frankton Flat zone would cater for commercial and residential zoning.

A simple Frankton Flats Plan Change summary was available on the council website or at council offices, as was a simple "Guide to Plan Changes".

"There is a specific form that needs to be filled out when you make a plan change submission and that is also available on line or at the office,' Mr Henderson said.
