Playground Renewal Consultation
- Date:
- Aug 1, 2007
Queenstown Lakes District families need to have their say on a new council report on playground renewal and development, QLDC parks manager Gordon Bailey said.
"Playgrounds are a really important part of our community recreation fabric and have immense value for our young so we want to provide the best facilities that meet the needs of the various communities," Mr Bailey said.
The report assessed the existing condition and play value of the 38 playgrounds district-wide.
"It looks at where playgrounds might need to be developed, removed or upgraded," Mr Bailey said.
It was important that families took the time to check on the recommendations.
"Particularly because in some cases where there might be two playgrounds nearby or a new and improved playground recommended in a better nearby location, some playgrounds may be allowed to reach their 'use by' date and then be removed," Mr Bailey said.
Where a change was being promoted the council wanted to be satisfied that the proposals met all community expectations.
"The evaluation criteria has been really thorough and takes a huge number of issues into account, including provision of shade and facilities to issues around parking and access," Mr Bailey said.
The report, which had been supplied to all community associations, was available on the council website or could be viewed at a council offices or libraries.
Comment on the report is being sought until Friday, September 28.
