A condolence book for the late Sir Edmund Hillary has been opened at the Queenstown Lakes District Council Gorge Road office.

Anyone is welcome to come in and sign the book, which will be sent to Sir Ed's family before the state funeral on January 22.

The condolence book will be available in the foyer of the Queenstown council office, above the library, until the end of the day on Friday January 18.

A condolence book will also be available from the Wanaka council office.
